Addison Newbon Nets 25 Points in Victory over HLGU

Addison Newbon scored 25 points to help the Culver-Stockton women's basketball team to an 84-52 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University in the final game of the Atrium Hotel Classic at Charles Field House Saturday night.

Newbon registered 17 of her points in the first half as the Wildcats led 27-10 after one quarter and 45-33 at halftime. Newbon finished the night 11-for-16 from the field, including one 3-pointer, and 2-for-2 from the free throw line.

McKenzie Lathrom added 16 points on 7 of 10 shooting, while Aaliyah Ortiz and Avery Oetting each chipped in with nine points each. Lathrom, Oetting and Oritz also led the Wildcats with three assists in the game as the C-SC had 16 assists on 32 field goals.

The Wildcats shot 48 percent from the field, connecting on 32 of their 67 shots in the game. C-SC was 7-for-21 from the 3-points stripe and 13-for-16 from the free throw line.

After turning the ball over 24 times in the victory over Missouri Baptist Friday night, C-SC cut down on its miscues Saturday with just 10 turnovers. The Wildcats forced 27 Trojan turnovers, leading to 37 points. C-SC had 10 fast break points and a 15-7 edge in second chance points.

The Wildcats (2-0) a Trojans will face each other again next Saturday, Nov. 12, when the two teams meet at Porter Gymnasium in Hannibal, Mo. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
