Dominant Fourth Quarter by Wildcats Leads to Heart Road Victory

The Culver-Stockton women's basketball team outscored Peru State 31-13 in the fourth quarter to post a 95-83 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory Wednesday night in Peru, Neb.

The Wildcats shot 60 percent (15-25) in the first half but still trailed by eight points, 53-45, after the Bobcats made a blistering 68 percent (19-28) of their field attempts in the opening 20 minutes.

C-SC reduced the deficit by two points and trailed 70-64 entering the fourth quarter before the visitors caught a blew past the hosts in the final period.

The Wildcats netted seven of the first nine points of the fourth period and pulled to within 72-71 on a 3-pointer by Avery Oetting with 7:28 to play.

Peru upped the margin to 75-71 with five minutes remaining, but a layup by Aaliyah Ortiz started a 14-0 run by the Wildcats over the next three minutes to give the Wildcats an 85-75 advantage.

C-SC drained 10 of 12 free throws over the final one minute, 38 seconds to sell the victory. In fact, the Wildcats drained 31 of their 35 free throws in the game, outscoring the Bobcats 31-17 in the game, including 20-9 in the second half.

The Wildcats also used another strong defensive game, forcing 26 Peru turnovers, and turning those miscues into 35 points.

Katie Webb, who set a career high in points last Tuesday with 20 at Waldorf, topped that mark with 22 markers against Peru. Webb was 7-for-11 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line. Webb also grabbed 10 rebounds to record the double-double.
