Oetting's 3-pointer Lifts Wildcats to Road Victory at Benedictine

Avery Oetting's 3-pointer with 37 seconds remaining in regulation broke a 55-55 tie and helped the Culver-Stockton women's basketball team to a 60-55 victory over Benedictine College Saturday afternoon in Atchison, Kan.

The victory is the seventh straight for the Wildcats and improves their record to 10-1 overall and 5-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

Another strong fourth quarter by C-SC was the difference in the game.

Trailing 40-38 entering the final 10 minutes, the Wildcats outscored the Ravens 22-15 in the fourth to overcome the two-point deficit.

Benedictine twice held a five point lead in the final period, the last at 53-48 with 3:52 remaining in the game.

A basket by Kiana Ortiz and a 3-pointer by Oetting tied the game at 53 with three minutes to play.

Neither team scored again until C-SC's Neviaiah Bell-Tenner scored her only points of the game with 1:18 to play.

Benedictine tied the game for the ninth time with a basket with 52 seconds left before Oetting drained her second trey of the quarter which turned out to be the game winner.

C-SC never allowed the Ravens to get a shot off in the final 30 seconds, forcing two turnovers. Meanwhile, Oetting and Aaliyah Ortiz each made one free throw each to account for the final score.

McKenzie Lathrom led three Wildcat players in double figures with 17 points. She also added five assists and three steals.

Oetting and Olivia Hopp each scored 11 points to give the Wildcats a decisive 30-5 advantage in bench points.

Kiana Ortiz led the Wildcats with six rebounds while Aaliyah Ortiz chipped in with four assists and a team-best four steals.

The Wildcats return to action this Wednesday, Dec. 14, when they travel to Fayette, Mo., to face fourth-ranked Central Methodist University. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Puckett Field House.
