Wildcats End Losing Skid with Convincing Victory over Mount Mercy

The Culver-Stockton women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a dominating 79-47 victory over Mount Mercy University Saturday afternoon at Charles Field House.

The Wildcats used a big second half to earn their first victory of the 2023 calendar year and improve their record to 12-5 overall and 7-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

Leading 37-28 at the intermission, C-SC outscored the Mustangs 42-19 in the final 20 minutes of action. The Wildcats held the visitors to five second half field goals and 19 percent shooting in the final two periods. Mount Mercy was 2-14 in the third quarter and 3-for-12 in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats shot 48 percent from the floor in the second half, including 61 percent (11-18) in the third quarter when C-SC outscored the Mustangs 26-7 in the period to put the game out of reach. The Wildcats shot 49 percent overall from the field, connecting on 33 of their 67 field goal attempts.

C-SC was led by three players in double figures with Katie Webb leading the way with 16 points. Webb was 8=for-12 from the field overall. Avery Oetting and McKenzie Lathrom each recorded 13 markers in the game. Oetting led all players with eight assists in the game.

Aaliyah Ortiz turned a splendid stat line in the game, scoring seven points, grabbing a game-high nine rebounds, dishing out six assists and registering seven steals in the game.

C-SC is scheduled to play Monday, Jan. 16, at Graceland University in a Martin Luther King matinee in Lamoni, Iowa. Game time is slated for 2 p.m. at the Morden Center.
