Women's Basketball Falls Short at Grand View

The Culver-Stockton women's basketball team suffered its third road loss of the season with a 69-59 setback at Grand View University Saturday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Wildcats only led one time in the game, 14-12, in the first quarter. The Vikings ended the quarter with a 7-0 run and led 19-14 after 10 minutes.

The two teams played even in the second and third quarters with Grand View building a 38-33 halftime lead and taking a 53-48 advantage to the final period.

C-SC closed to with 53-50 in the first minute the fourth quarter; however, then went over four minutes without a point while falling behind 59-50.

The Wildcats, who average 19 free throw attempts per game in conference play, managed to get to the line just four times Saturday, making three of them. Meanwhile, Grand View went 14-of-17 from the charity stripe.

Aaliyah Ortiz continues to play well, recording 13 points, seven rebounds and eight assists for the Wildcats. Katie Webb was also in double figures with 13 markers.

McKenzie Lathrom and Avery Oetting each registered nine points each, while Kiana Ortiz chipped in with seven markers.

The Wildcats, now 15-7 overall and 10-6 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, is scheduled to host eighth-ranked Clarke University this Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Charles Field House. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
