Oetting Celebrates Birthday by Helping Wildcats Get First Victory

Culver-Stockton College sophomore guard Avery Oetting celebrated her birthday in style Saturday night at Charles Field House.

Oetting scored a game-high 21 points to propel the Culver-Stockton College women's basketball team to a 76-37 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University in the final game of the Atrium Hotel Classic.

The second-year player from Hallsville, Mo., connected on eight of her 14 field goal attempts, went 2-for-5 from outside the 3-point stripe and made all three free throws in 21 minutes of game action.

Whynter Waterhouse-Brennan complemented Oetting's night with 17 markers of 5-for-7 shooting. Waterhouse-Brennan was 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

One night after shooting 25 percent from the field in a 62-49 loss to Columbia College, the Wildcats rebounded nicely, though it took them a quarter to find the range.

The Wildcats shot 26 percent in the first quarter Saturday; however, rebounded strong over the final three quarters and ended the game shooting 45 percent overall.

The Wildcats led 12-5 after one quarter, 41-20 at halftime and 60-35 at the end of three periods.

C-SC (1-1) forced the Trojans into 19 turnovers with Delaney Straus and Kyla Schnurbusch pilfering three steals each. Schnurbusch also registered a game-high five assists.

The Wildcats return to action this Friday, Nov. 10, with a road contest at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio. Game time is set for 6 p.m. (EST).
