Wildcats Blow Out CMU to Earn First Conference Victory

The Culver-Stockton College women's basketball team placed four players in double figures in earning its first Heart of America Athletic Conference victory with an 87-43 decision over Central Methodist University Tuesday afternoon at Charles Field House.

The Wildcats bolted to a 21-13 lead after one quarter against a depleted Eagle roster consisting of just six players. C-SC outscored the visitors 27-11 in the second quarter to take a commanding 48-24 halftime lead.

Avery Oetting led the scoring parade with 19 points, draining 5 of 8 from behind the 3-point stripe. Oetting also pulled down five rebounds and dished out four assists.

Katie Webb chipped in with 10 points to join Oetting as the only starters in double figures. Addison Newbon and Kyla Schnurbusch came off the bench to net 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Wildcats bench outscored the Eagle bench 44-0 and had a 46-16 edge in points in the paint. C-SC also had 23 points off 17 CMU turnovers.

Schnurbusch corralled eight rebounds to lead the Wildcats in that category. Aaliyah Ortiz only scored two points in 20 minutes; however, had a team-high five assists, three blocks and four steals.

The Wildcats, now 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the Heart, returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 29, with a league game at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
