Wildcats Unable to Find Scoring Touch in Loss to Baker

The scoring woes continued for the Culver-Stockton College women's basketball team Saturday in a 63-46 loss to Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan.

In their last six games the Wildcats have averaged 54.1 points per game and have lost the last five contests in that span. In the previous three games before that stretch, the Wildcats averaged 82 points per game, with the only loss being an 81-79 overtime defeat at Benedictine.

Despite the offensive challenges, C-SC has played well defensively, limiting its opponents to an average of 66 points per game over the same six games. Take away the 92 points scored by fourth-ranked Clarke, and the total is even better at 60.8 points per game.

Against Baker, the Wildcats struggled early from the field and that set the tone for the entire game. C-SC made just three field goals in the first quarter and seven field goals overall in the first half to trail 33-19 at the intermission.

The Wildcats outscored the hosts 16-12 in the third quarter to pull within 45-35; however Baker made 11 out of 14 free throws the fourth quarter to slowly put the game on ice.

Avery Oetting was the lone Wildcat to reach double figures, finishing with 17 points in the game. It was the seventh time this season Oetting has scored in double figures.

Nevaiah Bell-Tenner added eight points while Wynter Waterhouse-Brennan returned from an injury and chipped in with seven markers.

Defensively the Wildcats registered a season-high 16 steals in the game with Oetting and Delaney Straus recording four each. C-SC also forced a season-high 24 Baker turnovers, matching the number of turnovers forced at Benedictine earlier this season.

Aaliyah Ortiz led the Wildcats with five rebounds and five assists in the game. Milliana Mozee-Williams grabbed four rebounds off the bench.
