Wildcats Remains Undefeated at Home in League Play with Victory over Mt. Mercy

The Culver-Stockton women's basketball team remained undefeated at home in conference play with a 70-56 victory over Mount Mercy University Wednesday night at Charles Field House.

The Wildcats limited the Mustangs, who had won three straight in the series, to 36 percent shooting from the field, including 21 percent (3-14) from beyond the 3-point arc, to stop a two-game losing streak and improve to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. C-SC is 4-0 against league opponents on the Charles Field House hardwood.

The Wildcats' biggest deficit in the game was one point on three different occasions in the first half. With the game tied at 26 in the second quarter, C-SC took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Avery Oetting with three minutes to play in the first half.

C-SC led 37-28 at the intermission and 47-35 at the end of three quarters before outscoring the visitors 23-19 in the final 10 minutes to account for the final score.

Oetting scored 10 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter, while Misora Nambara netted eight of her 14 points in the final period. Oetting notched her first career double-double, finishing with a career-high 13 rebounds to go along with her scoring prowess. Oetting also dished out a team-best five assists.

It was the play of junior college transfer Elly Bentley that sparked the Wildcats in the first half. Bentley helped the Wildcat build their first half advantage by scoring 13 of her career-best 17 points in the opening two periods. Katie Webb made it four starters in double figures with 12 points in the game.

The Wildcats will try to pickup up their first road victory in conference play this Saturday, Dec. 14, when they travel to Parkville, Mo., to face Park University. Game time is slated for 12 p.m. at the Breckon Sports Center.
