Road Struggles Continue for Women's Basketball

The road struggles for the Culver-Stockton College women's basketball team continued Saturday afternoon at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan.

The Wildcats turned the ball over 17 times and Baker scored 25 points off those miscues to post a 79-70 victory and hand C-SC its sixth consecutive road loss in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

The game started well for the Wildcats and the visitors grabbed a 21-20 lead after the opening quarter. However, C-SC managed to register just two field goals while recording seven turnovers in being outscored 19-11 in the second quarter to trail 39-32 at the intermission.

Despite re-claiming their shooting touch, the Wildcats were outscored 24-23 in the third quarter and trailed 63-55 with 10 minutes left to play.

C-SC closed to within 65-61 on a 3-pointer by Avery Oetting with 8:17 remaining in the game. However, Baker would go on an 8-0 run over the next two minutes, 54 seconds, before two free throws by Oetting stopped the bleeding with the Wildcat trailing 73-63.

The Wildcats would fight their way back to within five points at 75-70 on a basket by Misora Nambara with three minutes left, but the Wildcats would not score again in the game.

Nambara followed up her 22 point, five assist game against Benedictine Monday night by notching a team-high 17 points and dishing out five more assists Saturday against Baker. Katie Webb added 16 points and seven rebounds, while Oetting chipped in with 10 points.

The Wildcats, now 10-7 overall and 7-6 in the Heart, will try to break the road jinx this Wednesday, Jan. 22, when they play at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
