Wildcats Never Lead in Home Loss to Park

Park University led from start to finish and held on for a 64-62 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory over the Culver-Stockton women's basketball team Saturday afternoon at Charles Field House.

There was just two ties in the game, the last coming at 14-14 with 30 seconds left in the first quarter after a basket by C-SC's Katie Webb. The Pirates scored the final three points of the quarter to lead 17-14 after one, and then outscored the Wildcats 19-14 in the second quarter to lead 36-28 at halftime.

C-SC faced their biggest deficit of 11 points early in the third quarter and the Wildcats got as close as 50-46 late in the period before Park netted the final four points to keep their eight-point halftime advantage heading to the final 10 minutes.

In the final quarter, C-SC got to within two points on several occasions but could never tied the game. Avery Oetting pulled the Wildcats to within 59-58 with 3:40 to play and forced the Pirates to miss on the ensuing possession.

However, Park grabbed the offensive rebound and Emma Perry drained a 3-pointer to up the lead back to four at 62-58 with 3:21 remaining.

Misora Nambara pulled C-SC to within 62-60 with 85 seconds left and Park missed on the other end with Bailey Berry pulling down the rebound to give C-SC the ball with the chance to tie with 39 seconds left.

After a C-SC timeout, Oetting had trouble getting the ball in tried to pass off the ball the nearest defender, but the ball bounced off Oetting's leg as it as going out of bounds for a turnover.

C-SC was forced to foul four times to get in the penalty and the Pirates made two free throws with a 14 seconds left to seal the victory. 

Webb scored a team-high 15 points to lead the Wildcat offense attack. Oetting finished with 11 markers and a team-high six rebounds. Nambara dished out a game-high seven assists.

The Wildcats are slated to host Missouri Valley College at Charles Field House this Monday, Feb. 3. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
