Wildcats End Regular Season with Loss; Play at Grand View Tuesday in Heart Tournament

The Culver-Stockton women's basketball team ended the regular season on a down note with an 85-78 loss at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo., Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats complete regular season play with a 13-15 overall record, finishing seventh in the Heart of America Athletic Conference with a 10-14 mark. C-SC is scheduled to play second-seeded Grand View University in the Heart Tournament quarterfinals this Tuesday, Feb. 25, in Des Moines, Iowa. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. The Vikings won both regular season meetings, winning 71-65 in Des Moines on Dec. 7, and 76-65 in Canton on Jan. 25.

In the game with Missouri Valley, neither team had any trouble scoring, unlike the first meeting when the halftime score was 15-12 before the Vikings eventually won 60-57 in overtime. The Vikings shot 49 percent fro the game while C-SC was at 46 percent.

Missouri Valley connected on 13 3-pointers in the game, which was a season-high allowed by the Wildcats. The Vikings outscored C-SC 39-12 from beyond the arc and 16-12 at the free throw line.

The Wildcats were able to stay in the game by forcing 17 Viking turnovers and holding a 18-15 edge in points off those miscues. C-SC outscored Missouri Valley 54-30 on two point field goal attempts.

C-SC put three players in double figures with Avery Oetting netting 17 points to lead the way. Elly Bentley and Misora Nambara contributed 16 points each, while Katie Webb chipped in with nine points and Elizabeth Reed eight markers.

Bentley matched her career-high in rebounds with seven to pace the Wildcats in that category. Nambara totaled a team-high four assists while Oetting and Nambara had three steals each.
