Moore Named Newcomer of the Year in the Heart; Saunders Earns Second Team Honors

Culver-Stockton College women's bowlers Rachel Moore and Jasmine Saunders earned Heart of America Athletic Conference honors the league announced during the final day of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships Sunday in Topeka, Kan.

Moore, a freshman from Keokuk, Iowa (Keokuk HS), was named the Heart's Newcomer of the Year and to the all-conference first team for her play during her rookie season. Saunders, a junior from Keokuk, Iowa (Keokuk HS) was named to the second team this season after garnering first team honors in 2023.

In addition, Wildcat Head Coach Derek Sapp  was named the Heart Women's Coach of the Year.

Moore played in 10 events this season, earning all-tournament team honors in seven events for finishing in the top five overall. Among those seven all-tournament team honors, Moore captured two events, winning the Leatherneck Classic Nov. 11-12 and the NAIA West Region Classic Feb. 3. Moore registered seven top 10 finishes and eight top 25 finishes, averaging 200.29 pins per game. Moore totaled 11,016 pins in 55 games this season. She ranked 20th among all collegiate players ranked by the United States Bowling Congress (USBC).

Saunders also played in 10 events for the Wildcats this season, recording an overall average of 178.47 pins per game. She accumulated one top 10 finish and four top 25 finishes among her 10 events.  Saunders totaled 9,816 pins in her 55 games bowled.

The Wildcats competed in the Heart Championships over the weekend. C-SC qualified second for match play during Saturday's opening round. The Wildcats advanced to the semifinals before settling for third place, the best finish in program history.

C-SC has qualified for the USBC Intercollegiate Team Sectionals, March 9-10 at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill.
