Women's Lacrosse Beats Hendrix 11-7 for First Victory of the Season

The Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team earned its first victory of the season with an 11-7 victory over Hendrix (Ark.) College Wednesday afternoon in Conway, Ark.

Tied 6-6 after three quarters, the Wildcats outscored the Warriors 5-1 in the fourth quarter capture the victory at Warrior Lacrosse Field. McKayla Nevarez led the Wildcat offensive attack with four goals and one assist in the game. Sopheea Vomund added three goals, her second hat trick of the year, including two in the decisive fourth quarter.

C-SC led 3-1 after the first quarter; however, the Warriors responded with a big secnd quarter to take a 5-4 lead at halftime. The Wildcats then outscored the hosts 2-1 in the third quarter before exploding for five goals in the final 15 minutes of action.

C-SC held a 32-26 shot advantage and a 15-9 edge in ground balls. The Wildcats foced 17 Hendrix turnovers while committing just 12 miscues themselves. Both teams recorded 13 saves. C-SC goalie Jillian Vervynck faced 20 shots on goal and stopped 13 of them to earn the victory. Nevarez and Vomundeach registered three ground balls to led the Wildcats.

The Wildcats (1-1) is scheduled to host Indiana Tech University this Monday, March 13, at Ellison Poulton Stadium. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
