Sanchez Nets Record Eight Goals; Offense Sets Assist Mark in Lacrosse Victory over St. Mary

Melanie Sanchez scored set a school record eight goals and the Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team set a school mark with 11 assists in a 17-6 non-conference victory over the University of St. Mary Thursday afternoon at Poulton Stadium.

Sanchez broke the previous mark of seven goals in a game that was set by McKayla Nevarez on two different occasions last season, Sanchez also added three assists for 11 total points in the game.

Sopheea Vomund added six goals in the contest while Nevarez continued to find the back of the net with three goals and matched Sanchez's total of three assists. Emily Green registered two assists while Erin Bodine, Courtni Hopper and Raven Kearse had one assist each.

C-SC also had a good day defensively, causing 11 of the 18 turnovers recorded by the Spires. Four different players caused two turnovers each. The Wildcats committed 15 turnovers and the Wildcats had a 15-11 edge in draw controls with Vomund coming up with six draw controls to lead the winners.

C-SC (3-2) is slated to begin Heart of America Athletic Conference play this Saturday, March 25, at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Opening draw is slated for 2 p.m.
