Wildcat Lacrosse Breaks Out in Second Half to Defeat UHSP

The Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team outscored Health Sciences and Pharmacy 5-2 in the second half to pick up a 9-6 non-conference victory Monday afternoon at St. Louis University High School.

The Wildcats and Eutectics played to a 4-4 draw in the first half before C-SC outscored the hosts 4-0 in the third quarter to take an 8-4 lead.

UHSP pulled to within 8-6 early in the fourth quarter; however, McKayla Nevarez stopped the momentum with a goal for the Wildcats and C-SC was able to shut the down the Eutectics over the final 10 minutes to claim the victory.

Courtni Hopper led the Wildcat offense with four goals in the game, including two during the third quarter barrage. Sopheea Vomund added two goals and an assist while Nevarez garnered two goal in the game. Melanie Sanchez contrabuted a goal and an assist.

The Wildcats outshot UHSP 29-11 overall and held a 20-9 edge on shots on goal. Goalkeeper Jillian Vervynck was called upon to make just three saves in the game for the Wildcats.

C-SC (4-3) returns home to begin a three-game homestead starting Thursday afternoon, March 30, against Missouri Baptist University, Game time is slated for 4 p.m. at Ellison Poulton Stadium.
