Spartans Play Keep Away in Victory over Wildcats

Missouri Baptist University had major edge in possession time and that was the difference in a 19-6 victory over the Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team Thursday afternoon at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

The Spartans controlled 20 of the 29 draws in the match and made good on most of them as the Wildcats allowed a season-high in goals. MBU outshot the hosts 47-15 in the game.

The visitors scored the first five goals of the game and led 5-1 after one quarter. The Spartans increased their lead to 8-2 in the second quarter before the Wildcats made a late run at the end of the half to pull within 8-4 at the intermission.

Unfortunately, C-SC couldn't keep the momentum going at the start of the second half. MBU netted the first five goals of the half and outscored the Wildcats 11-2 in the half overall.

McKayla Nevarez registered two goals and added an assist to lead the Wildcat offense. Leading scorer Sopheea Vomund was shut out on the scoresheet, though she did lead the Wildcats with five shots.

The Wildcats (4-4) is slated to host Missouri Valley College in a Heart of America Athletic Conference game this Saturday, April 1, at Poulton Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
