Wildcats Set Goals Mark in Rout of Missouri Valley

The Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team set a new school record for goals in a 23-1 rout of Missouri Valley College at Ellison Poulton Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The previous mark was set during the 2021 campaign in a 21-6 victory at Morningside (Iowa) University. In addition to the goals mark, the victory was the fifth win of the season for the Wildcats, surpassing the program's best of four wins set last season. C-SC, in its fourth of competition,  has increased its win total in every year the program has been in existence.

The Wildcats dominated a Vikings team that was playing short-handed due to injuries. C-SC totaled 43 shots overall, putting 31 of them on goal. Missouri Valley was only able to manage five shots in the match, putting four of them on target.

C-SC also forced 22 turnovers in the game, forcing eight turnovers by its aggressive play. The Wildcats also held a 23-10 edge on groundballs, and a 15-13 advantage on draw controls.

Individually, McKayla Nevarez accounted for nine points in the game with four goals and five assists. C-SC assisted on 12 of their 23 goals in the game. Sopheea Vomund matched Nevarez in goal-scoring with four tallies on the day.

Emy Monsalve and Raina Richard added three goals each, while four other players recorded two goals each, including Bella Olson, who netted her first two goals of the season. Richard and Courtni Hopper garnered two assists each.

The Wildcats, now 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, is slated to host eighth-ranked Benedictine College this Thursday, April 6, at Poulton Stadium. The opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
