Lacrosse Season Ends in Heart Semifinals; Wildcats Finish with Most Wins since Inception of Program

The Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end with a 20-3 loss to Benedictine College in the Heart of America Athletic Conference semifinals in Atchison, Kan., Wednesday afternoon.

The Wildcats never found their footing in the game, falling behind 9-1 after the one quarter. The Ravens continually controlled the draw, gaining possession on 21 of the 26 draws in the game overall.

C-SC trailed 2-0 when Raina Richard put C-SC on the board with an unassisted goal with 10:51 to play in the quarter. 

Benedictine, the defending national champion, scored 13 unanswered goals before the Wildcats' Sopheea Vomund notched her team-leading 34th goal of the year to make it 15-2.

Courtni Hopper added her 10th goal of the season in the fourth quarter to close out the Wildcat scoring.

The Wildcats had 16 clear opportunities in the game but was only able to convert nine of them. Meanwhile, the Ravens were 10-for-11 on clear attempts.

Benedictine outshot the Wildcats 31-10 overall including a 25-9 edge on shots on goal. Jillian Vervynck and Autumn Lesher each played a half in goal and combined for five saves in the game.

The Wildcats conclude the season with a 6-7 overall record, the third straight season the Wildcats have improved their victory total from the previous year.
