Wildcats Roll to Easy Season-opening Victory behind Quarles' Seven Goals

The Culver-Stockton College women's lacrosse team opened the 2024 season with a 19-1 rout of the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth, Kan., Sunday afternoon.

The one goal allowed tied a school record which was set last season in a 23-1 victory over Missouri Valley College. The Wildcats also allowed the fewest shots in a single game with four. The previous mark was five, also against Missouri Valley last season.

Freshman Kaelin Quarles led the offensive effort with seven goals and three assists for 10 overall points. Fellow freshman Lauren Grebing added five goals while Raven Kearse totaled two goals. Karson Jackson matched Quarles with three assists while also scoring a goal.

Goalkeeper Jillian Vervynck earned the victory, allowing just one goal on four shots. Vervynck made three saves in the match.

The Wildcats recorded 33 shots, held a 33-14 edge in ground balls and a 14-8 advantage in draws. C-SC committed 17 turnovers while forcing 26 miscues by the Spires.

C-SC (1-0) is scheduled to play its home opener this Thursday, Feb. 22, against Webber International (Fla.) at Ellison Poulton Stadium. The opening draw is slated for 4 p.m.
