Wildcats Sweep First Edition of Heart Weekly Lacrosse Honors

The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced its first edition of the Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards Monday and Culver-Stockton College swept both honors with Kaelin Quarles earning Offensive Player of the Week, and Jillian Vervynck garnering Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Quarles, a 5-foot-8 freshman midfielder from Henderson, Nev. (Coronado HS), amassed 10 total points with seven goals and three assists in the Wildcats' only game of the week, a 19-1 victory over the University of St. Mary Sunday in Leavenworth, Kan. Quarles attempted 16 shots overall, including 11 shots on goal. In addition, Quarles totaled seven groundballs, won six draws, and caused five turnovers in the season-opening victory.

Meanwhile, Vervynck, a 5-foot-10 sophomore goalie from Overland Park, Kan. (St. Thomas Aquinas HS), allowed just one goal in the victory over the Spires. The one goal allowed is a school record for fewest goals allowed, which was set last season in a 23-1 victory over Missouri Valley College. Vervynck faced four total shots in the game, making three saves to earn the victory in net.

The Wildcats (1-0) are scheduled to play two games at home this week beginning Thursday, Feb. 22, against Webber International University (Fla.). The opening draw is slated for 4 p.m. at Ellison Poulton Stadium. C-SC is also set to host the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Sunday, Feb. 25, at Poulton Stadium. Game time that day is scheduled for 1 p.m.
