Quarles Continues Hot Start but Wildcats Lose in Home Debut

The Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team began the home portion of its schedule with an 11-4 loss to Webber International (Fla.) University Thursday afternoon at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

The game started out well enough for the Wildcats as freshman Kaelin Quarles continued her hot start with the game's first goal just two and half minutes into the contest. The goal was Quarrel's eight of the season.

However, C-SC would manage just six more shots in the first half while the Warriors gained control by scoring six goals on 16 shots to take a 6-1 lead to the intermission.

Webber International didn't let the Wildcats get any momentum in the second half, allowing just five shots in the half. The Warriors, meanwhile, directed 19 shots at the C-SC net and outscored the Wildcats 5-3 in the half.

Quarles added to her total with three more goals in the second half, all unassisted, to finish the four goals overall and giving her 11 in two games. Quarles led C-SC with six shots and seven ground balls.

Defensively, Jillian Vervynck faced 24 shots on goal and made 13 saves. n the field of play, Lauren Grebing was the team leader in caused turnovers with three while Katie De Craene had two caused turnovers.

C-SC was 8-for-19 in draws but committed 32 turnovers in the contest. Quarles led the Wildcats with four draws won. The Warriors were 11-for-19 in draws  and had just 19 miscues for the game.

C-SC (1-1) remains at home and is scheduled to play the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy this Sunday, Feb. 25, at Poulton Stadium. The opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
