Lacrosse Scores Three Late Goals to Upend UHSP and Earn Home Victory

CANTON, Mo. —- The Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team scored twice in a span of 46 seconds of the fourth quarter to overcome a one goal deficit and defeat the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (UHSP) 9-7 Sunday afternoon at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

Trailing 7-6 and a man down due to a red card with under three minutes remaining in regulation, the Wildcats forced a turnover and C-SC's Jasmine Simpson picked up the ground ball deep in Eutectics territory.

Simpson passed to Kaelin Quarles who found Lauren Grebing cutting towards the goal. Grebing buried the shot to tie the game with 2:41 to play. The goal was the first of the second half for the Wildcats.

UHSP controlled the ensuing draw but Quarles quickly caused a turnover by intercepting a pass. Quarles sprinted into UHSP to set up the offense. This time Grebing hit Quarles coming across the middle and Quarles beat the Eutectic goalkeeper with her third goal of the game just 46 seconds after Grebing's game-tying tally.

Quarles added her fourth goal of the game, with an assist from Grebing, and the 15th of the season with 55 seconds left in the game to seal the Wildcats' second victory of the season.

Quarles finished the game with four goals and two assists for six total points to lead the Wildcats. Grebing added two goals and two assists, while Karson Jackson had two goals and an assist. Emily Greene also scored a goal for the Wildcats.

C-SC led 4-2 after the first period but the Eutectics outscored the hosts 4-2 in the second quarter to go to the intermission tied 6-6. UHPS netted the only goal of the third quarter to take one goal lead to the final period.

C-SC was outshot 28-18 overall in the game with the Eutectics holding a 15-14 edge with shots on goal. Wildcat goalkeeper Jillian Vervynck stopped eight shots to improve her record to 2-1 on the season.
