Short-Handed Lacrosse Falls to Ottawa

The Culver-Stockton College women's lacrosse team fell behind 8-0 after one quarter and never recovered in a 21-4 home loss to Ottawa University Tuesday afternoon at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

The Wildcats, who came into the game short-handed due to injuries, lost another player just before the start of the game. The Braves took advantage by scoring three goals in the first three minutes of the contest.

C-SC got on the board when Anaya Lopez, playing in her first game of the season, scored just 31 seconds into the second quarter. Lopez added another goal in the quarter and Lauren Grebing contributed a goal as the Wildcats outscored the visitors 3-2 in the quarter to go to halftime trailing 10-3.

However, the Braves notched seven unanswered goals in the third quarter and added four more in the fourth quarter before Grebing added her second goal of the game to finish the scoring.

The Wildcats were outshot 43-19 in the contest, including 21-5 in the second half. C-SC goalkeeper Jillian Vervynck faced 35 shots on goal, making 14 stops.

C-SC (2-2) is slated to play at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, on Tuesday, March 19. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
