Lacrosse Drops 13-10 Decision at Saint Ambrose

The Culver-Stockton College women's lacrosse team gave once-beaten Saint Ambrose University all it could handle before succumbing 13-10 Wednesday afternoon at the St. Vincent Athletic Complex in Davenport, Iowa.

The Wildcats nearly played the Bees to a draw in the opening 30 minutes before a goal by the hosts with 31 seconds remaining in half gave the Bees a 6-5 lead at the intermission of the Heart of America Athletic Conference contest.

The late goal seemingly fired up Saint Ambrose (8-1, 4-0 Heart), which came out in the second half and netted five straight goals after the break. C-SC added two goals at the end of the quarter to head to the final 15 minutes trailing 11-7.

C-SC closed to within 11-8 early in the fourth quarter; however, the Bees stopped any hopes of an upset by notching two goals to regain their five goal advantage. The Wildcats tallied two goals late to make it a three-goal deficit.

Kaelin Quarles, the reigning conference player of the week, registered six goals and recorded two assists to finish with eight points in the game. Quarles, who became the school's single season goal leader Sunday, broke the single-season assist mark against the Bees. She currently has 13 assists with one game remaining in the regular season. Quarles has also set the single season record for points and presently has 56 points this season.

Lauren Grebing and Aaliyah Ortiz added a goal and an assist in the game, while Emily Greene and Rylie Boyce garnered one goal each. Bella Olson and Karson Jackson each registered an assist.

Defensively, Anaya Lopez set a single-game record with eight caused turnovers, breaking the previous mark of six by Erin Bodine. Lopez also owns the single-season and career record for caused turnovers.

The Wildcats, now 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the Heart, is slated to play its regular-season finale this Saturday, April 13, at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. A victory would give the Wildcats the No. 3 seed in next week's conference tournament.
