Four Lacrosse Players Earn All-Heart Honors; Lopez, Quarles Lauded for Individual Play

The Culver-Stockton College women's lacrosse team placed four players on the 2024 Heart of America Athletic Conference All-Conference team, the league announced Wednesday. In addition, the Wildcats received three individual awards in conference voting.

Defenders Anaya Lopez and Katie De Craene and midfielder Kaelin Quarles were named to the first team, while midfielder Lauren Grebing was named to the second team. Additionally, Lopez earned Defensive Player of the Year recognition while Quarles was named Freshman of the Year by league coaches. Assistant coach Madison Reed was named the Assistant Coach of the Year.

Lopez, a senior from Hollywood, Fla. (Flanagan HS), appeared in nine regular season games and led the Wildcats with a school-record 22 caused turnovers, which was second in the Heart, during the regular season. Lopez also gathered a team-best 42 groundballs, which was also second in the league. Lopez added three goals and one assist. This is the third straight year Lopez has been named to the all-conference team and the second consecutive year she has earned first team honors.

Quarles, a freshman from Henderson, Nev. (Coronado HS), led the Wildcats with a school record 43 goals during the regular season, which was third in the Heart. Quarles added 13 assists for a school record 56 points during the regular season. Quarles also collected 38 groundballs, caused 16 turnovers, and controlled 31 draws. She was twice named the Heart Player of the Week during the season.

De Craene, a sophomore from Clarksville, Tenn. (St. Francis HS), played in all 12 regular season games for the Wildcats, registering 25 groundballs and 15 caused turnovers, which was tied for seventh in the league. De Craene also recorded two goals during the season.

Grebing, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo. (Rosati-Kain HS), played all 12 games and was second on the team with 29 goals during the regular season, which was eight-best in the Heart. Grebin added eight assists for 37 total points, ranking her ninth in that category among all Heart players. Grebing was first on the Wildcats and third in the Heart with 31 draw controls during the regular season. Additionally, Grebing garnered 19 groundballs and 11 caused turnovers.

The Wildcats (6-6) are slated to play at Saint Ambrose University in the Heart Tournament semifinals today, Wednesday, April 17, in Davenport, Iowa. Game time is 3 p.m. The winner advances to Saturday's championship game against the winner of the game between top-seeded Benedictine (Kan.) and fourth-seeded William Penn (Iowa).
