Women's Soccer Suffers First Loss

The Culver-Stockton College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday night to Saint Ambrose University in the Bil Haag Memorial Soccer Game at the Muscatine Soccer Complex in Muscatine, Iowa.

The Wildcats started quickly with Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez taking a feed from Morgan Dierks Machado and giving C-SC a 1-0 lead just 15 seconds into the contest.

Chandler-Gutierrez added her second goal of the match in the 13th minute after taking a pass from Halle Jennex, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage.

However, that would be all the offense the Wildcats could muster against the Bees. C-SC had just two more shots in the first half while conceding two Saint Ambrose goals on 12 Saint Ambrose shots to send the teams to the locker room tied 2-2 at the intermission.

The game seemed headed for a draw as neither team put much pressure on the other in the second half. C-SC registered just three total shots and had two shots on goal half. Meanwhile, the Bees had six total shots and had two shots on goal. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, one of the two shots on target for the Bees found the back of the net, coming in the 79th minute.

SAU held an 18-7 advantage in total shots, including a 7-4 edge on target. The Bees also had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks and were more aggressive with 11 fouls to the Wildcats' eight fouls.

The Wildcats (4-1) are scheduled to host Harris-Stowe State University this Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Ellison Poulton Stadium. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
