Park Nets Three Unanswered Second Half Goals to Upend Wildcats

Park University scored three unanswered goals in the second half to pull away and defeat the Culver-Stockton College women's soccer team 4-1 Saturday night at Ellison Poulton Stadium in Canton.

The Pirates actually netted four straight goals in the game after the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the first half.

The Wildcats forced the first of their eight corner kicks in the game just 10 minutes into the contest. Savannah Stauffer sent the free kick to the middle of the goal box where Mikayla Gioia was able to punch past the Pirate goalkeeper for a 1-0 C-SC lead.

The score stayed that way until the 29th minute when C-SC was called for a foul at the top of the penalty area. Park's Cecille Pedersen beat the wall and C-SC goalkeeper Mackenzie Frizzell to tie the game at one. The goal was the first allowed by Frizzell over a span of three and nearly 300 minutes of game action.

C-SC had several chances to break the tie in the first half, most notably by Morgan Dierks Machado who had a breakaway stopped by Felicias Mueller' left arm.

Statistically, the game was tight throughout with the Wildcats holding a 15-12 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. The Pirates put six of their 12 shots on goal, while the Wildcats had eight of their 15 shots on target.

C-SC, now 7-4-2 overall and 1-3-2 in the Heart, is slated to travel to Dubuque, Iowa, to face Clarke University on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
