Frizzell Blanks Graceland to Tie Season Shutout Mark

The Culver-Stockton College women's soccer team posted its ninth shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over Graceland University Saturday night at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

Junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Frizzell recorded just two saves in earning her eighth shutout, tying the school record for shutouts in a season. The Yellowjackets registered three shots in the match with two of those going on target.

The Wildcats scored the only goal it would need in the sixth minute of the game when Morgan Dierks Machado took a pass from Kimberly Williams, settled it and then drove past the Yellowjacket goalkeeper for her fourth goal of the season.

C-SC dominated the first half, out-shooting the visitors 11-1 in the half while recording a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.

The Wildcats added an insurance goal in the 70th minute when Graceland attempted to clear a corner kick. Goalkeeper Alexia Johnson punched the original centering pass out of the goal box. A Graceland defender and Wildcat midfielder Maggie Tuxhorn fought for the loose ball but it ended up going straight to Halle Jennex who one-timed by Johnson for the second goal of the game.

C-SC ended up holding a 19-3 edge in shots and a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Graceland committed 12 fouls while C-SC had five fouls and two cautions.

C-SC, now 8-4-3 overall and 2-3-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, is slated to play at William Penn University next Saturday, Oct. 21, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
