Wildcats in Wait-and-See Mode after 1-1 Tie with Grand View

The Culver-Stockton College women's soccer team could have guaranteed themselves a postseason berth with a victory over Grand View University Friday night at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

Instead, the Wildcats settled for a 1-1 tie and will likely need some help to to punch their ticket to the playoffs.

C-SC (9-5-4), which ends the regular season with a 3-4-4 conference mark, will need Baker, which is 3-6-1 in league play, to either lose or tie Mounty Mercy Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. That game kicks off at 1 p.m.

The Wildcats opened quickly Friday against the Vikings.

Taking advantage of a free kick from about 40 yards out, Savannah Stauffer sent the re-start to the front of the rand View net. A scrum ensued and the ball squirted out to Halle Jennex, who hit a low shot the left post for a 1-0 C-SC lead nine minutes in.

Exactly eight minutes later, Grand View scored the equalizer off a corner kick. Several players from each team tried to get a piece of the ball and it ended up in the back of the net.

The score was tied 1-1 at halftime in a half that saw each team manage just two shots each.

The second half belonged to the Wildcats as they dominated possession, holding a 7-1 edge in shots to finish with a 9-3 advantage overall. However, C-SC also had a 4-0 edge in corner kicks in the second half and finished with a 6-1 edge in that category.
