Four Soccer Players Named to Academic All-District Team

The 2023 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), were released in November and recognized the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.  

For the 2023 season, four Culver-Stockton College players garnered Academic All-District® honors. Named to the list were Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez (Valley Center, Calif. / Valley Center HS), Morgan Dierks Machado (Kansas City, Kan. / Sumner HS / Missouri Valley College), Mackenzie Frizzell (Maple Ridge, British Columbia / Fox School), and Maggie Tuxhorn (Rochester, Ill. / Rochester HS).

Academic All-District® honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees were announced in December.
 
A sophomore studying English Education, Chandler-Gutierrez was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete this season. She finished the 2023 season with three goals and one assist for seven overall points this season.
 
Machado, a graduate student studying in the athletic training master's program, led the Wildcats with 13 overall points this season. Machado netted four goals, had a team-best five assists, and registered two game-winning goals during in her only season on the Hill   For her efforts, she was named to the All Heart of America Athletic Conference second team.
 
An elementary education major, Frizzell wrapped up her junior campaign by tying the school season record for shutouts with eight. She started 16 of the 18 games this season, allowing 1.55 goals against per game and making 62 total saves. Frizzell was also named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete in the fall for the second consecutive season.
 
Tuxhorn, a nursing student, was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2023. She led the team with three game-winning goals and finished the season with four goals and two assists for 10 total points. Tuxhorn was named to the All-Heart third team for her efforts.
