Chandler-Gutierrez Scores Four Goals as Wildcats Win Home Opener

It was a home-opener to remember for junior forward Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez Wednesday night at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

Chandler-Gutierrez netted a career-high four goals as the Culver-Stockton women's soccer team opened its home season with a 5-0 victory over Stephens College to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

The Wildcats, who defeated Northwestern (Iowa) 5-4 last Wednesday, registered their first goal in the 21st minute Chandler-Gutierrez outraced a Stars defender to the ball after a long pass from Savannah Stauffer.

Chandler-Gutierrez then duped the the Stars goalkeeper and ripped the ball into the open net for a 1-0 lead.

C-SC added its second goal of the half in the 32nd minute when a 50-50 ball ricocheted to Chandler-Gutierrez who was one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Chandler-Gutierrez slipped maneuvered around the goalkeeper for her second goal of the night.

Chandler-Gutierrez didn't waste much time earning her third goal of the game, finding the back of the net just 55 seconds into the second half. Freshman Rian Moore slipped a pass to Chandler-Gutierrez who beat the goalkeeper for the hat trick.

Chandler-Guterrez capped off her night by taking a slick pass from Halle Jennex to net her final goal of the game. Chandler-Gutierrez, who has six goals in the two games, needed just four shots to score her four goals.

Freshman Lola Weise concluded the Wildcat scoring by recording her first career goal in the 61st minute. Weise gathered a pass from Mikayla Gioia, dribbled around a defender and drilled a shot inside the near post.

The Wildcats outshot the Stars 21-0 and had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks in the game. Seven of the 21 shots were on goal.

Mackenzie Frizzell and the Wildcat defense registered the shutout. Frizzell now has 16 career shutouts, which is ranked third all-time. She is just one shutout behind Mackenzie Little for second place.

The Wildcats continue its season this Saturday, Aug. 31, with a non-conference road match at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis, Mo. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
