Women's Soccer Moves to 3-0 after Big Second Half at Harris-Stowe
The Culver-Stockton College women's soccer team remained unbeaten after three games with a 3-1 non-conference victory over Harris-Stowe State University at Cardinal Ritter High School in St.Louis.
The Wildcats struck first on a goal from Ellie Wiehardt with an assist to Savannah Stauffer in the ninth minute. The Hornets got the equalizer in the 27th minute and the game went to the half knotted at 1-1.
In the second half, Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez notched her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 59th minute to give the Wildcats the lead. It was Chandler-Gutierrez's fifth goal in the last two games.
The score stayed that way until the 76th minute when C-SC's Mikayla Giola picked up a rebound off a shot from Lexi Clark to give the Wildcats a two-goal lead.
C-SC dominated the shot total with a 15-7 edge, including a 10-5 advantage in the second half. The Wildcats also recorded 10 corner kicks in the game, doubling up the Hornet's five corner kicks.
C-SC (3-0) has a quick turnaround and will play Doane (Neb.) this Monday, Sept. 2, in a non-conference match at Ellison Poulton Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
