Frizzell, Wildcats Register Third Consecutive Shutout

The Culver-Stockton College women's soccer team registered its third straight shutout as it attempts to qualify for the Heart of America Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament next month.

The Wildcats netted three first half goals en route to a 4-0 victory over William Penn University Tuesday night at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

Goalkeeper Mackenzie Frizzell didn't have mcc work in the first 45 minutes of the game as the Statesmen managed just three shots overall and one on goal. In the second half, WPU picks up the pressure and outshot the host 7-3 in the half.

However Frizzell made two more saves in the second half and finished the game with three saves overall in registering her third straight shutout and 21st clean sheet of her career.

C-SC scored all the goals they would need in the first half.

Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez started the scoring when she ran down a through ball from Maggie Tuxhorn, stepped around the Penn goalkeeper and etched her team-leading 13th goal of the season just 10 minutes in.

The Wildcats made it 2-0 five minutes later on a corner kick set piece.

Rian Moore drove the corner kick to the middle of the penalty area when McKenna Little headed it toward the goal. Ellie Wiehardt tapped in the loose ball for her second goal of the year.

Mikayla Gioia recorded her second goal just before halftime and Lola Weise garnered her second goal of the season in the second half to account for the final two goals.

The Wildcats will play their final home match of the season Friday, Oct. 25, against MidAmerica Nazarene at Poulton Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. C-SC, which is celebrating homecoming this weekend, will recognize the senior class before the game.
