Wildcats Shut Out No. 24 MidAmerica Nazarene for Fourth Straight Victory

The Culver-Stockton women's soccer team celebrated senior night and homecoming with a 1-0 victory over 24th-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University Friday night at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

The Wildcats, who are fighting for a postseason berth in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, have won four straight games to get to 10-6-1 overall and 4-6 in the Heart. The Wildcats' 12 points currently have them sitting sixth in the conference with one game left next Wednesday at Mount Mercy.

C-SC managed just two shots in the first half but one went in as Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez notched her team-leading 14th goal of the season with an assist from Halle Jennex in the 28th minute of the game. The 14 goals are the most by a Wildcat in a season since Jesse Thomas tallied 14 goals in 2004.

Senior Mackenzie Frizzell and the senior-laden defensive backfield made that lone goal stand, turning away 10 Pioneer shots, including six on goal, to record her seventh shutout of the season and the 22nd of her career.

The Wildcats were limited to just six shots overall and two shots on goal but did force five corner kicks in the game while MNU managed just one corner.

C-SC is slated to play its final regular season game next Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
