Frizzell Ties Single Season Shutout Mark as Wildcats Play to Scoreless Draw

The Culver-Stockton College women's soccer team ended the regular season with a scoreless draw at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Thursday afternoon,

C-SC goalie Mackenzie Frizzell notched her fifth straight shutout and tied her own school record (with Mackenzie Little) for shutouts in a season with eight. Frizzell has 23 shutouts in her career.

The Wildcats conclude the regular season on a five-game unbeaten streak and end with a 10-6-2 overall record and a 4-6-1 mark in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. C-SC has qualified for the Heart Postseason Tournament for the first time since 2021 and will play Tuesday, Nov. 5, in a quarterfinal match against a yet-to-be-determined opponent. Pairings are slated to be announced Saturday.

Mount Mercy and C-SC was hindered by cold, blustery conditions Thursday at Hadzic Field resulting in just 10 combined shots overall. In fact, the Wildcats did not record a shot in the opening 45 minutes of the game. Meanwhile, the Mustangs registered five shots in the first half, including its only shot on goal.

It was completely the opposite in the second half as the Wildcats used a cross wind to their advantage and were able to record four shots on goal. Lexi Clark garnered two shots on goal while Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez had the best opportunity, racing in ahead of the defense and hitting a solid shot that was saved by the Mustang goalkeeper.
