Straus Sets Two School Records; Sharp Sets Mark in Weight Throw at Bumble Rumble

The Culver-Stockton College women's track and field team competed in the Bumble Rumble at Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, Saturday afternoon.

No team scores were recorded during the event but the Wildcats did record two first place finishes and foure school records during the day.

Junior Delaney Straus was at the forefront of the days events with three top five finishes, including two school records.

Straus set a school record and finished first in the 1,000-meter run, finishing in a time of 3:03.17. That mark broke her own record of 3:04.57 set earlier this year at the Cornell Winter Classic.

Straus' other school record came in the mile run where she finished second overall with a time of 5:16.42. That mark broke the previous mark of 5:17.88 set by Skylar Barger at the 2016 conference championships.

Finally, Straus finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles final. She ran 10.35 seconds in the final after qualifying for the finals with a time of 10.10 seconds.

In the field events, Donyall Sharp set a school record in the weight throw with a mark of 46 feet, 11 inches, good for eighth place overall.

Faith Younce registered the other first place finish for the Wildcats, winning the 5,000-meter run with a time of 21:34.71 to lead a 1-2 finish for the Wildcats.  Emma Berry followed Younce across the finish line in second place with a time of 21:42.50.

In other field events, Kinlie Judd placed eighth overall with a vault of 8 feet, 6 1/4 inches.

The final school record was set in the distance medley as the Wildcats captured the event with the first sub 14 minute time in school history, The team of Malia Carmack, Victoria Pollard, Lexi Clark and Straus finished in a time of 13:58.00. The previous record was 14:15.60 set at the 2014 conference championships.

The Wildcats are back in action next Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Hilltop Invitational in Mount Vernon, Iowa, at Cornell College. That meet is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
