
Women's Track Sets Seven School Records; Has Eight Named All-League
Delaney Straus earned all-conference honors in three individual events and one relay to help the Culver-Stockton women's track and field team place seventh at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Indoor Championships at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville Friday ad Saturday.
The Wildcats accumulated 52.5 points to ahead of four other teams among the 11 team that scored during the meet. Central Methodist won the overall team title with 209 points.
Straus did her part, becoming the conference champion with a first place finish in the 1000-meter run with a school-record time of 3:02.11. Straus finished second in the pentathlon and set another school record, finishing with 3,244 points.
Straus also placed third in the mile run with a time of 5:25.52 and then concluded her day as the anchor for the distance medley relay team, which placed third with a school record time of 13:15.11.
Faith Younce also had a great day for the Wildcats, hitting an automatic qualifying time for the national indoor championships in the 3000-meter race walk and finishing second overall in a time of 16:01.21, which is a school record.
In the sprints, Emma Smith set a school record in the 60-meter dash and was named an all-conference performer with a fifth place finish and a time of 7.79. Smith qualified for the final on Friday by running a 7.81 qualifying time.
Also earning all-conference honors were Kinlie Judd and Zoi Smith in the pole vault. Judd set a personal best and placed fourth overall with a mark of 9 feet, 4 1.4 inches. Smith placed sixth overall with a mark of 8 feet, 10 1/4 inches.
Donyall Sharp tied her own school record in the weight throw of 48 feet, 11 1/ inches, earning a point for the team with an eighth place finish.
In addition to the distance medley relay, the Wildcats also earned one point in two other relays. In the 4x800 relay, C-SC set a school record with a time of 10:33.59, and a point in the 4x400 relay, finishing 8th with a time of 4:21.76.
