O'Neil Wins Two Events; Wildcats Place Fourth at Washington U. Event

The Culver-Stockton College women's track and field team participated in the Washington University Track Meet after a late switch due to the Grand View Viking Relays being cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Wildcats registered 47 team points to place fourth in the team standings among the six teams competing on the women's side.

Leading the way for the Wildcats was Shannon O'Neil who won both the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. O'Neil posted a winning time of 15.55 seconds in the 100 while finishing in a time of 1:05.04 in the 400.

Delaney Straus scored in four events during the day with her best finish being fourth in the javelin with a throw of 98 feet, 9 inches. Straus was also fifth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.28 seconds, and eighth in both the 800-meter run and the long jump. In the 800, Straus finished in a time of 2:22.49, and in the long jump she set a mark of 15 feet, 10 1/2 inches.

Faith Younce and Allison Morris each competed in the 3000-meter steeple chase and placed fifth and sixth, respectively. Younce finished in a time of 13:06.07 while Morris completed the circuit in 13:21.95.

Other athletes recording top five finishes on the day were Malia Carmack in the 400-meter dash (1:04.79) who placed sixth; Faith Hopgood in the shot put (35 feet, 0 1/2 inches) who placed fourth; and Donyall Sharp in the hammer throw (132 feet, 11 inches) who placed sixth overall.

The Wildcats are slated to compete next weekend in the two-day Central Methodist Invitational in Fayette, Mo. The event will run Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30.
