Younce Hits Qualifying Standard, Straus sets Heptathlon Mark at CMU Invitational

The Culver-Stockton College women's track and field team won two events, set four school records and reached a provisoonal qualifying standard while placing fourth among 18 teams in the CMU Invitational at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo., Friday and Saturday.

Delaney Straus won the heptathlon and set two school records in the process during the two day event. Straus recorded 4,158 points to outdistance the field in the seven discipline event. The point total easily surpassed the previous mark of 3520 by Ashlyn May from the 2016 conference meet. The total points is fourth-highest in the NAIA this season. Her other record came in the 800-meter run, which she finished in 2:17.18.

Kinlie Judd captured the pole vault and tied her own school record with a mark of 9 feet, 0 1/4 inches. Malia Carmack was fourth with a mark of 7 feet, 0 1/2 inches.

Faith Younce hit a provisional qualifying mark in the 5000-meter race walk with a time of 29:25.11. She also set a school record in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 45:51.90, breaking the previous mark by Ceara Flowers of 47:26.77 in 2015.

Finally, Donyall Sharp tied her own record in the hammer throw with a throw of 132 feet, 11 inches. That mark was good enough to finish 12th in a 32-person field.

The Wildcats are set to participate in the Cornell Invitational next Saturday, April 6, in Mount Vernon, Iowa. The first events are set to begin at 10 a.m.
