Morris Walks Away with Player of the Week Honors

Culver-Stockton College graduate student Allison Morris has been named the WinWon Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Cornell Invitational in Mount Vernon, Iowa, April 6.

Morris, of Antioch, Ill. (Antioch HS / Iowa Wesleyan College), eclipsed the school record in the 5000-meter racewalk by 57 seconds in winning the event Saturday. Her time of 27:58.22 broke the previous mark of 28:53.87 by Courtney Spann at the 2010 Washington University Invitational. Morris' time was also below the automatic qualifying standard giving her a spot in the upcoming NAIA Outdoor Championships May 22-24 in Marion, Ind.

Morris is the fourth Wildcat and second female track and field athlete to earn accolades from the conference this season. Delaney Straus was named last week while Jabez Rivers and Logan Lucas were named men's track athletes of the week March 18 and March 25, respectively.

The Wildcats are back in action this week when they participate in the Mount Mercy Mustang Distance Carnival and Open Friday and Saturday, April 12-13 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Friday's events begin at 5:30 p.m. with the Saturday competition starting at 10:30 a.m.
