School Records, Personal Bests Highlight Women's Track Weekend

The Culver-Stockton women's track team participated in the Mustang Distance Carnival and Open at Mount Mercy University Friday and Saturday, April 12-13, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa., setting a school record and 11 personal bests during the meet.

Delaney Straus had a busy but successful weekend, earning a third place and a fourth place finish in the 800- and 1500-meter races, respectively. In the 1500 Elite race against a strong field, Straus broke a nine-year old school record with a blistering time of 4:48.24. That mark was also bettered the facility record at Mount Mercy. In the 800 Elite race, Straus finished third with a time of 2:21.74.

Straus also found time to compete in the high jump and placed seventh overall with a mark of 4 feet, 9 1/2 inches.

In the 1500 open race, Faith Younce placed fourth overall with a personal best mark of 5:39.75. Allison Morris and Emma Berry also competed in the 1500 open race and placed 10 and 11th, respectively. Morris finished in a time of 5:55.12 while Berry finished in a time of 5:55.88. Both were also personal bests for each runner.

In the pole vault, Kinlie Judd and Zoi Smith placed fifth and sixth overall. Both vaulters topped 8 feet, 8 1/4 inches.

Among the throwers, Donyall Sharp set a personal best in the discus and a season-best in the shot put. In the shot, Sharp finished 12th overall with a throw of 29 feet, 10 1/4 inches, while she placed 21st in the discus with a throw of 101 feet, 8 inches.

C-SC is set to host the Wildcat Open next Saturday, April 20, at Richeson Track inside Ellison Poultpn Stadium. The field events are set to begin at 10 a.m with the running events slated to start at noon.
