Women's Track and Field Wins Own Invitational

The Culver-Stockton College women's track and field team amassed 154.5 points and captured four events in winning its own Wildcat Invitational at Richeson Track inside Ellison Poulton Stadium Saturday in Canton, Mo.

Central Methodist was second with 133 team points while Missouri Baptist was third with 106 team points. William Woods finished fourth with 99 points in the nine-team field.

Delaney Straus finished first in two events, finished second and fifth in a third to lead the Wildcats.

Straus captured the 800-meter run and the 1,500-meter run, placed second in the in the triple jump and fifth in the high jump during the day. Straus was also a member of the 4x800 relay team that finished second overall.

Starus covered the 800 distance in a time of 2:20.87 and the 1,500 in a time of 4:50.14. She registered a mark in the triple jump of 35 feet, 6 3/4 inches, and a height of 4 feet, 9 inches in the high jump.

Allison Morris got the meet started on the right foot with a school-record mark in the 10,000-meter run. Morris pulled away to in the long distance race in a time of 43:45.87, setting a stadium mark in the process.

Morris also competed in the 5,000-meter run and placed third overall with a time of 21:30.07.

Faith Younce earned the fourth first-place finish for the Wildcat women with a winning time of 12:42.34 in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Younce placed second in the 5000 with a time of 21:03.30. Emma Berry finished second to Younce in the steeplechase with a time of 14:12.08.

In the sprints, Emma Smith finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.96 seconds while Malia Carmack was fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.73 seconds.

Carmack also placed third in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 2 inches. Teammate Petra Johnson was second in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 3 1/2 inches.

In the throws, Donyall Sharp finished fifth in both the discus and the hammer throw. Sharp recorded a throw of 117 feet, 3 inches in the discus, and a mark of 121 feet, 3 inches in the hammer throw.

The Wildcats will have their final tuneup before the conference championships this Friday, April 26, at the Grand View Viking Classic in Des Moines, Iowa. Opening events begin at 11 a.m.
