Women's Track and Field Place Fourth at Cornell Invitational

The Culver-Stockton women's track and field team competed in the Cornell Invitational Saturday afternoon in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

The Wildcats compiled 107 team points to finish fourth among the six team field. Grinnell won the event with 163 points, followed by host Cornell with 157 points and Grand View with 116 points.

Individually, Delaney Straus led the Wildcats by getting points in five different events. Straus finished first in two separate events, winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.12, a personal best. Straus also won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 3 inches, also a personal best.

In other events, Straus placed second in the javelin throws with a mark of 111 feet, 5 inches. She placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.31 seconds, and she was fifth in the high jump with a mark of 4 feet, 4 3/4 inches.

Zoi Smith received points in four different events placing second in the pole vault with a mark of 9 feet, 0 1/4 inches. Smith also fourth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:24.98, fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 14:52.93, and sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.74 seconds.

Abigail Mooney pointed in two field events during the day. She placed third in the pole vault with a mark of 8 feet, 0 1/2 inches, and fourth in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 6 3/4 inches.

C-SC had two runners place in the 800-meter run with Lexi Clark posting a fourth place finish in a time of 2:35.33, and Malia Carmack finishing fifth with a time of 2:37.10.

In addition to Straus in the javelin, Emma Staats and Mackenzie Bryan registered personal best in placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Staats tossed the spear 102 feet, 3 inches, while Bryan threw it 89 feet.

Faith Younce continued her fine career with a first place finish in the 3000 steeplechase, finishing in a time of 12:46.84, which was a season-best. Emma Berry set a personal best in the event with a time of 13:12.23 and placing fourth overall.

The Wildcats are scheduled to participate at the Mustang Distance Carnival at Mount Mercy University next Friday and Saturday, April 11-12, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Friday's activities are set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
