
Straus Recognized as Heart Track Athlete of the Week for Second Straight Week
Culver-Stockton College junior Delaney Straus (Philadelphia, Mo. / Marion County HS) has earned Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week presented by WinWon for the second consecutive week after her performance at Mount Mercy's Mustang Distance Carnival and Open on Friday and Saturday, April 11-12 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This is the third outdoor honor this spring for Straus and the fifth weekly outdoor honor of her career.
Straus competed in three running events during the meet last week, including her specialty the 800-meter run. She competed in the elite race and finished third overall with a season-best time of 2:16.81, only losing to two division I athletes from the University of Northern Iowa. Straus now leads the Heart in the 800 by 1.87 seconds.
Straus also ran the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash, posting season-best times in both races. She finished the 100 hurdles in 15.81 seconds, and the 200 in 27.28 seconds. In addition, Straus led the 4x400 relay team with a sub 60 second split and to a season-best 4:15.15 finish.
The Wildcats are scheduled to host the Culver-Stockton Invitational this Friday, April 18, at Richeson Track inside Ellison Poulton Stadium. The field events are slated to start at 10 a.m. with the running events to begin at 10:30.
