Women's Volleyball Sweeps Iowa Wesleyan

The Culver-Stockton women's volleyball team captured its third straight victory with a straight set 25-12, 25-23, 25-23 decision over Iowa Wesleyan University in a non-conference match Friday night at Charles Field House.

The Wildcats, who have won five of their last seven overall, did not trail in the opening set in recording a 76 percent side out percentage to set the tone of the match. C-SC registered 11 kills on 29 attempts, committing just three errors for a .276 attack percentage in the first set.

The home team cooled off over the next two sets and allowed the Tigers (1-14) to stick around and have a chance to win either of the final two sets. The Wildcats combined to attack at an .130 attack rate. The result was 13 ties and nine lead changes in the final two sets.

Madison McClain, the reigning conference attacker of the week, continued her outstanding season with 12 kills and 11 digs. The double-double was her eighth of the season and third in a row. McClain finished with a .276 attack percentage on 29 attempts.

Heleine Filipe just missed double digits in terminations, finishing with nine in the match. Filipe committed three errors on 22 attempts for a .273 attack percentage. Lauren Bloom garnered 16 set assists and four service aces in the match.

Defensively, Veiauna Herman led the back line with a team-best 14 digs to join McClain in double figures. Filipe had three solo blocks, while McClain had one solo and two block assists.

The Wildcats (9-4) resume conference play next Friday, Sept. 30, with a match at Peru State in Peru, Neb. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
