Netters Rally Falls Short in Five Set Loss to Peru State

The Culver-Stockton women's volleyball team fell short in its attempt to pick up its first conference road victory of the season Friday night against Peru State College.

The Wildcats battled back from a two set deficit and had three match points in the fifth set before the Bobcats captured a 25-17, 25-20, 23-25, 19-25, 20-18 victory at the Wheeler Activity Center in Peru, Neb.

The loss snaps a three-match winning streak for the Wildcats and drops their record to 9-5 overall and 4-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

Madison McClain registered her ninth double-double for the Wildcats with 22 kills and a career-high 24 digs. The 22 kills match her career high, which she also accomplished against Graceland earlier this season, and against College of the Ozark last season. She had a .254 attack percentage on 67 swings, committing just five errors.

Heleine Filipe recorded eight kills, Ali Scott seven kills and Abby Godwin six kills to compliment McClain in the front row. Lauren Bloom and Sarah Wells combined for 41 of the Wildcats' 52 set assists with Bloom tallying 24 set assists and Wells 17.

On defense, Veiauna Herman also reached 20 digs for the Wildcats, while Kelsie Schieppe and Wells were also in double figures with 14 and 11, respectively.

Up front, Scott totaled four blocks with one solo and three assists while Filipe had three assists and McClain and Blanca Martino had two block assists each.

C-SC gets another chance to earn that first Heart road victory this Tuesday, Oct. 4, when they play at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
