Wildcats Post Four Set Victory over Benedictine College

For the second match in a row, the Culver-Stockton women's volleyball team lost the first set before sweeping the next three games to post a Heart of America Athletic Conference victory.

This time the Wildcats dropped the first set to visiting Benedictine College before marching to three straight set victories and taking the match by the scores of 18-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-21 Friday night at Charles Field House. The victory improves C-SC to 11-5 overall and 6-4 in the Heart.

The 11 victories mark the most victories by the C-SC women's program since they went 22-10 in 2014. The victory was also just the third against a South Division opponent since 2020.

Madison McClain and Heleine Filipe were the main targets offensively for the Wildcats, registering 34 of the 55 kills by the winners. McClain earned her 11th double-double of the season with 18 kills and a team-best 20 digs in the match.

Filipe added 16 kills and 13 digs while Ali Scott just missed double figures in kills, finishing with nine on the night. Lauren Bloom totaled a match-high 45 set assists and Veiauna Herman garnered two service aces.

Herman also tallied 17 digs in the back row as Bloom also reached double figures in digs with 11. Blanca Martino led the front row with four block assists. The Wildcats totaled six team blocks in the match.

The Wildcats will try to sweep the week tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 8, when they host Baker University at Charles Field House. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
