Women's Volleyball Posts Fifth Straight Victory

The Culver-Stockton women's volleyball team captured its season-high fifth straight match with a 25-15, 16-25, 25-12, 25-23 victory over NCAA Division III Westminster College Thursday night n Fulton, Mo.

After a slow start in the opening set that saw the Wildcats trail the Blue Jays 12-9, C-SC reeled off 16 of the next 19 points to pull away for an easy set one victory.

The Wildcats were nearly flawless in the opening set as far as the attack was concerned. C-SC committed just two attack errors on 24 swings and had 14 kills for a .500 attack percentage.

After a cooling off considerably  in the second set, the Wildcats re-grouped in the third and fourth set to secure the victory. C-SC had a .079 attack percentage in the second set, a .212 attack percentage in the third set and a .128 percentage in the final set for a .197 percentage overall.

Heleine Filipe and Madison McClain each registered 14 kills to lead the Wildcat offensive attack. McClain added 14 digs while Filipe had 12 digs as each player finished with a double-double.

The middle attack of Ali Scott and Ashleigh Brawley also had a good night hitting. Each recorded seven kills while combining for an attack percentage of .429. Lauren Bloom garnered 40 of the 45 set assists for the winners.

Defensively, Veiauna Herman led the back line with a match-high 19 digs, joining McClain and Filipe in double figures.

The Wildcats tallied 10 team blocks overall with one solo blocks and 18 block assists. Scott led the way with five block assists while Brawley and Filipe had four block assists each.

The Wildcats, now 14-5 overall, are scheduled to play in the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy tri-match Friday night, Oct. 14, in St. Louis, Mo. C-SC will play Bible Baptist University at 6 p.m. followed by UHSP at 8 p.m.
