Wildcats Fall to William Penn Despite Filipe's Career Night

The Culver-Stockton women's volleyball team saw its seven-match winning streak snapped in a hotly-contested loss to William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Tuesday night.

In a match that featured 13 ties and six lead changes, the Statesmen posted a 25-21, 25-23, 25-27, 26-24 victory over the Wildcats, avenging a loss earlier this season in Canton.

The Wildcats held a 65-56 edge in kills; however, C-SC also committed 34 attack errors in the match for a .166 attack percentage. The Statesmen recorded just  19 attack errors on 172 swings for a .215 attack percentage. 

Senior Heleine Filipe registered a career-high 25 terminations to lead the visitors. Filipe had seven errors on 56 swings for a .321 attack percentage.

Fellow senior Madison McClain added 22 kills in the match and a .174 hitting percentage, while Ali Scott had seven terminations. Lauren Bloom tallied 54 set assists.

Defensively, McClain led three players in double figures in digs with 24, giving her 16 double-doubles this season. Kyla Ellis and Veiauna Herman added 15 digs each as C-SC held an 81-67 advantage.

Up front, the Wildcats managed just four team blocks compared to 16 team blocks for the Statesmen. 

The Wildcats, now 16-6 overall and 8-5 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, are slated to play two key road matches this weekend against South Division opponents, beginning Friday night at Missouri Valley in Marshall, Mo. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
